Who they were
Dionysius was Bishop of Corinth about 170. Eusebius knew seven of his letters to the Churches, teaching true doctrine, urging peace and unity, and strengthening the faith of the Athenians after the martyrdom of their bishop.
His letters are among the earliest witnesses to the martyrdom of Sts Peter and Paul in Rome.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
