Who they were
Little is known of Soter except that he was Pope for about eight years, between 166 and 175. Eusebius preserves part of a letter to him from Dionysius of Corinth praising his charity and kindness to all, a sign of great pastoral love.

There was never a formal cause: Soter has been honoured as a saint since the early Church.
Why that counted as sanctity
Soter is remembered for the charity with which the Church of Rome, under him, cared for other Churches and for all in need.
