Who they were
Domènec de Sant Pere de Ruidebitllets, in the world Joan Romeu i Canadell, was born in the diocese of Barcelona on 11 December 1882, was ordained a diocesan priest on 25 May 1907 and made his solemn profession as a Capuchin on 4 October 1912, serving as a missionary in Costa Rica and Nicaragua before returning to Catalonia in 1930; he was seized at Manresa on the night of 27 July 1936, beaten, tortured and killed. He was beatified on 6 November 2021 by Pope Francis among Benet de Santa Coloma de Gramenet and two companions.
