Estanislao García Obeso
Dominican priest, martyr of the persecution in Spain
Who they were
Born at Requejo in the city of Santander on 18 September 1875, he served as preacher, confessor and prior in several friaries, founded free schools in Madrid for workers' children and restored the friary and the basilica of Our Lady of Atocha; arrested at Oviedo in the revolution of October 1934, he was later imprisoned at Reinosa and killed in the Montes de Saja on 21 October 1936. He was beatified on 28 October 2007 by Benedict XVI with Enrique Izquierdo Palacios and 13 companions of the Order of Preachers.
