Gregory of Utrecht
Frankish bishop and saint
Feast: 25 August (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
Gregory, of a noble family of Trier, was a boy reading Scripture aloud at table when St Boniface visited in 722 and spoke of the apostolic life. On fire, he left all to follow Boniface, sharing his labours and journeys.
About 750 he became Abbot of St Martin's at Utrecht, and after Boniface's martyrdom he was ordered to care for the diocese. He died in 775 or 780.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
