Gudula

Who they were

Gudula, born in Brabant in the seventh century, was the daughter of St Amalberga and sister of St Reinelda and St Emebertus. From childhood she lived in piety and good works, often walking two miles to pray at the church of Moorzeele.

She died early in the eighth century. Her relics were later taken to Brussels, of which she is the most venerated patroness.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: she has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

A devout young woman from a family of saints, patroness of Brussels.
