Hugh of Châteauneuf

Who they were

At Grenoble in Burgundy, in present-day France, Saint Hugh, bishop, who worked for the reform of the morals of the clergy and people and, during his episcopate, ardently loving solitude, gave to Saint Bruno, once his teacher, and to his companions the hermitage of Chartreuse, of which he was also the first abbot; he governed his Church for about fifty years with the attentive example of his charity.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

Why that counted as sanctity

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 1 April as a bishop of Grenoble who reformed clergy and people and gave Saint Bruno and his companions the hermitage of Chartreuse.
