Who they were
Mother Isabel Ferrer Sabrià was born at Vilanova i la Geltrú, near Barcelona, on 15 November 1852. At 28 she joined Mother Micaela Grau and Esperanza García at the start of the Congregation of the Christian Doctrine, and her kindness to the poor and the illiterate became proverbial.
When the congregation's communities were scattered in 1936, she lived hidden with Mother Ángela de San José and other sisters. On the night of 19 November 1936 they were taken to Paterna and shot in the early hours of 20 November. She was beatified with sixteen companions in 1995.

As a martyr she was raised to the altars without a miracle.
