Ivo of Chartres
French abbot and bishop of Chartres (c.1040–1116)

Who they were
Ivo, of a noble family near Beauvais, studied at Bec under Lanfranc with St Anselm, and became prior of the canons of Beauvais and one of the best teachers in France.
In 1090 he became Bishop of Chartres, which he governed for twenty-five years. His letters show a man faithful to duty, full of zeal and piety, fair and outspoken. He was the most important canonist in the West before Gratian, and died in 1116.
The miracles
His feast has been kept since 1570; it is not known when he was canonised.
Why that counted as sanctity
A zealous and just bishop and a great teacher of Church law.
