Priest of the Diocesan Worker Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, martyr of the persecution in Spain
Who they were
José Manuel Claramonte Agut was born at Almazora, in the province of Castellón and the diocese of Tortosa, on 6 November 1892, was ordained priest on 2 June 1916 and joined the Brotherhood that August. For more than twenty years he taught seminarians at Valencia, Tortosa, Córdoba and Baeza, and he died a martyr at Vall d'Alba on 10 June 1936. Pope Francis beatified him on 13 October 2013, among the martyrs of Joaquín Jovaní Marín and fourteen companions of the Brotherhood of Diocesan Worker Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
