Priest of the Diocesan Worker Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, martyr of the persecution in Spain
Who they were
Joaquín Jovaní Marín was born at Sant Mateu, in the province of Castellón and the diocese of Tortosa, on 16 October 1874, was ordained priest on 4 June 1898 and joined the Brotherhood that August. He spent his life teaching seminarians at Toledo, Almería, Barcelona, Rome and Tarragona, was elected Superior General of the Brotherhood in 1927, and after imprisonment at Barcelona died a martyr at Moncada on 5 December 1936. Pope Francis beatified him on 13 October 2013, among the martyrs of Joaquín Jovaní Marín and fourteen companions of the Brotherhood of Diocesan Worker Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

The decree on martyrdom records that, after being thrown into prison at Barcelona, he died a martyr at Moncada on 5 December 1936.
