José Pia Arasa
Priest of the Diocesan Worker Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, martyr of the persecution in Spain
Who they were
José Pia Arasa was born at Santa Bárbara, in the province of Tarragona and the diocese of Tortosa, on 16 November 1888, was ordained priest on 18 May 1913 and joined the Brotherhood in 1914. He taught seminarians at Baeza, Tortosa, Plasencia and Burgos and worked for eucharistic reparation in Mexico and at Tortosa, where he died a martyr on 11 September 1936. Pope Francis beatified him on 13 October 2013, among the martyrs of Joaquín Jovaní Marín and fourteen companions of the Brotherhood of Diocesan Worker Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
