José Piquer Arnáu
Priest of the Diocesan Worker Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, martyr of the persecution in Spain
Who they were
José Piquer Arnáu was born at Onda, in the province of Castellón and the diocese of Tortosa, on 26 October 1874, was ordained priest on 17 December 1904 and joined the Brotherhood in 1906. He gave his ministry to the training of priests at Jaén, Valencia and Tortosa, and he died a martyr at Bechí, near Castellón, on 11 September 1936 together with thirteen priests and twelve lay companions. Pope Francis beatified him on 13 October 2013, among the martyrs of Joaquín Jovaní Marín and fourteen companions of the Brotherhood of Diocesan Worker Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
