José Prats Sanjuán
Priest of the Diocesan Worker Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, martyr of the persecution in Spain
Who they were
José Prats Sanjuán was born at Catí, in the province of Castellón and the diocese of Tortosa, on 31 July 1874, was ordained priest on 4 June 1898 and joined the Brotherhood in 1899. He served the seminaries of Astorga, Zaragoza, Barcelona, Baeza and Tortosa and the houses for vocations at Cuenca and Murcia, and he was shot at Tortosa on 1 September 1936 with three companions of the Brothers of the Christian Schools. Pope Francis beatified him on 13 October 2013, among the martyrs of Joaquín Jovaní Marín and fourteen companions of the Brotherhood of Diocesan Worker Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
