Who they were
Josep Oriol de Barcelona, in the world Jaume Barjau i Martí, was born on 25 July 1891, made his perpetual vows as a Capuchin in 1911 and was ordained priest on 29 May 1915, teaching liturgy, Hebrew and Church history and serving at Manresa as preacher, confessor and spiritual guide; he was seized on 24 July 1936 while carrying communion to a Poor Clare nun and killed outside the city that evening. He was beatified on 6 November 2021 by Pope Francis among Benet de Santa Coloma de Gramenet and two companions.
