Who they were
Josep Tous y Soler was born at Igualada near Barcelona on 31 March 1811 into a large, solidly Christian family. Drawn by the Franciscan ideal, he became a Capuchin as Brother Ildefonso and was ordained on 24 May 1834.
In a time of upheaval, with friaries suppressed and burned, friars expelled and priests killed, he founded the Capuchin Sisters of the Mother of the Divine Shepherd.
