Kamen Vitchev

Who they were
Petar Vitchev was born on 23 May 1893 in the village of Strem, near Burgas, Bulgaria, to Orthodox parents. In 1910 he entered the Assumptionists in Belgium, taking the name Kamen, and was ordained in the Eastern rite in Istanbul on 22 December 1921. After a doctorate in theology at Strasbourg in 1930, he taught philosophy at St Augustine's College in Plovdiv.
With his fellow Assumptionists Pavel Dzjidzjov and Josaphat Šiškov he was unjustly accused of treason by the atheist regime, imprisoned for being a Christian and put to death in 1952.
