Liberio González Nombela

Who they were

A priest of the clergy of the Archdiocese of Toledo, born on 30 December 1895 at Santa Ana de Pusa, who was killed in the persecution in Spain in 1936. He loved the Church and the poor, and he held to the faith through ill-treatment and torture until he washed his robe in his own blood on 18 August.

He was beatified on 28 October 2007 by Benedict XVI, one of Liberio González Nombela and his twelve companions of the clergy of the Archdiocese of Toledo.

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.

Why that counted as sanctity

The decree on martyrdom found that Liberio and his companions were killed in hatred of the faith.
