Luis de la Puente

Who they were

Luis de la Puente, a Jesuit of Valladolid and pupil of Suárez, was a gifted superior until ill health made him give up office. He became one of the great masters of the spiritual life through his writings, and was spiritual director of Marina de Escobar.

He cared for the plague-stricken in 1599 and bound himself by vow to avoid even small faults. He died at Valladolid on 16 February 1624.

A few years after his death the Congregation of Rites admitted his cause; the Catholic Encyclopedia does not describe its progress.
