Luis Echevarría Gorostiaga
Franciscan priest, martyr of the persecution in Spain
Who they were
Brother of Félix Echevarría Gorostiaga, he was born at Ceánuri on 26 August 1895, made his religious vows in September 1913 and was ordained priest in May 1920; he served in Jerusalem and Nazareth, taught after returning to Spain, and fled the persecution first to Coín near Málaga and then to Fuenteovejuna, where he was vicar. He was beatified on 28 October 2007 by Benedict XVI with Félix Echevarría Gorostiaga and six companions of the Order of Friars Minor.

Why that counted as sanctity
The decree on martyrdom names him among the seven Friars Minor of Fuenteovejuna killed in 1936 for their fidelity to Christ and the Church.
