Máedóc of Ferns

Who they were
Maedoc (Mogue), son of a Connacht chieftain, was so famed for holiness as a youth that, to escape would-be disciples, he fled to Wales, where he became one of St David's three most faithful disciples. Many miracles are recorded of him.
Returning to Ireland, he founded several monasteries in Leinster, the greatest at Ferns, and about 598 was consecrated its first bishop. He died on 31 January 626.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
