Mary of Bethany

Who they were

Mary lived at Bethany with her sister Martha and her brother Lazarus, friends whom, St John says, Jesus loved. When He came to their house she sat at His feet and listened to Him.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: Mary of Bethany is honoured as a saint from the Gospels. Since 2021 she is remembered with Martha and Lazarus on 29 July.

Why that counted as sanctity

Mary chose to listen to Christ before all else, the 'better part' that would not be taken from her.
