Otto of Freising

Who they were

Otto, son of St Leopold of Austria and uncle of Frederick Barbarossa, studied at Paris and on his way home entered the Cistercians at Morimond, becoming abbot.

Called to be Bishop of Freising about 1138, he kept his monastic habit, founded and reformed monasteries and furthered learning. He died at Morimond on 22 September 1158.
