Parish priest of Contigny in the diocese of Moulins, martyr
Who they were
The decree on martyrdom describes him as parish priest of the town of Contigny in the diocese of Moulins, born on 5 October 1744 and dead on 17 June; the Roman Martyrology says that during the French Revolution he was reduced, because of his priesthood, to a humiliating imprisonment aboard a ship off Rochefort, and that after giving absolution to a dying fellow prisoner he died himself. He was beatified on 1 October 1995 by John Paul II, among Jean-Baptiste Souzy and his sixty-three companions whose martyrdom in 1794-1795 the decree declared.
