Pierius
Egyptian presbyter and philosopher

Who they were
Pierius, a priest of Alexandria, was probably head of its catechetical school with Achillas; his skill as a preacher and interpreter of Scripture won him the name 'Origen the Younger'. St Pamphilus was his disciple.
He suffered for the faith in the persecution of Diocletian and spent his last years in Rome, dying after 309. The Roman Martyrology commemorates him on 4 November.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
