Who they were
Pius was, according to St Irenaeus, the ninth successor of St Peter, bishop of Rome from about 140 to about 154. The Liberian Catalogue and the Muratorian Fragment say his brother Hermas wrote 'The Shepherd'.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: Pius has been honoured as a saint since the early Church.
Why that counted as sanctity
Pius guided the Roman Church in the mid-second century and handed on the apostolic faith.
