Who they were
Savina Petrilli was born at Siena on 29 August 1851. In 1869 Pius IX urged her to follow in the footsteps of St Catherine.
On 15 August 1873, with five companions, she took vows and began the Sisters of the Poor of St Catherine of Siena, to serve needy girls and the poor; their first mission in Brazil opened in 1903. She died on 18 April 1923.
