Timothy

Who they were

Timothy was born at Lystra to a Jewish mother and a pagan father. When St Paul came through at the start of his second journey, he chose Timothy as his companion, since he was well spoken of by the brethren at Lystra and Iconium. He went with Paul through Asia Minor to Macedonia and Athens, was sent to Thessalonica, and worked with him in Corinth.

According to Eusebius he was the first bishop of Ephesus; two of St Paul's letters are addressed to him. Some of his relics have been at Termoli Cathedral in Italy since 1239.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: Timothy has been honoured as a saint since the first century. He shares his memorial with St Titus on 26 January.

Why that counted as sanctity

Timothy was Paul's faithful son in the faith, who went wherever he was sent and was trusted to shepherd the Church of Ephesus.
