Who they were

Vicente Jovaní Ávila was born at Benicarló, in the province of Castellón and the diocese of Tortosa, on 5 December 1902 and was ordained priest on 24 June 1928, having already joined the Brotherhood the year before. For nine years he was prefect of the seminarians at Valencia, Burgos, Valladolid and Tarragona, and he died a martyr at Moncada, near Barcelona, on 5 December 1936. Pope Francis beatified him on 13 October 2013, among the martyrs of Joaquín Jovaní Marín and fourteen companions of the Brotherhood of Diocesan Worker Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
