Who they were

At Constantinople, Saint Eutychius, bishop, who presided over the Second Ecumenical Council of Constantinople, in which he fought strongly in defence of the right faith and, after suffering a long exile, in dying professed the resurrection of the flesh.

At Troyes in the territory of Neustria, in France, Saint Winebald, abbot of the monastery of Saint-Loup, renowned for the austerity of his life.

In the same place, Saint Prudentius, bishop, who compiled a summary of the Psalter for those setting out on a journey, gathered the precepts of the Sacred Scriptures for candidates for the priesthood, and renewed monastic discipline.

At Staré Město in Moravia, within the borders of the present-day Czech Republic, the anniversary of the death of Saint Methodius, bishop, whose memorial is kept together with that of his brother Saint Cyril on 14 February.

In the monastery of Saint Gall in Swabia, in the territory of present-day Switzerland, Blessed Notker the Stammerer, monk, who spent almost his whole life in this house, giving himself to the composition of many sequences; frail in body but not in mind, stammering in voice but not in spirit, he was deep in the things of God, patient in adversity, gentle towards all, diligent in prayer, in reading, in meditation and in writing.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

Why that counted as sanctity

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 6 April as the abbot of the monastery of Saint-Loup at Troyes, renowned for the austerity of his life.
