Fra Angelico

Who they were

Guido di Pietro, born near Vicchio in Tuscany in 1387, joined the Dominicans at Fiesole in 1407 as Fra Giovanni. He began as an illuminator of manuscripts and became a great painter of religious works.

He painted with a pious mysticism, convinced that to picture Christ one must live with Christ; his frescoes adorn the convent of San Marco in Florence. He died in Rome in 1455.
