Gregory X

Who they were

Teobaldo Visconti of Piacenza, archdeacon of Liège and not yet a priest, was chosen pope on 1 September 1271 after a vacancy of nearly three years. He presided in person at the Council of Lyons.

Returning to Rome, he died at Arezzo on 10 January 1276. His short pontificate had far-reaching results.

The miracles

Because of his unusual virtues he is revered as Blessed in Rome and several dioceses; the Catholic Encyclopedia does not describe a formal cause.
