Honoratus
4th and 5th-century abbot of Lérins and Archbishop of Arles

Who they were
Honoratus, of an illustrious pagan family of northern Gaul, became a Christian with his brother Venantius and set out to visit the monks of the East, but Venantius died on the way.
Returning, he settled on the wild island of Lérins to live in solitude; disciples gathered and there grew the monastery that became a nursery of bishops and writers. Made Archbishop of Arles in 426, he died in the arms of his disciple Hilary in January 429.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

The founder of Lérins, a school of holiness for all Gaul.
