Who they were
Eusebio del Niño Jesús, in the world Ovidio Fernández Arenillas, was a priest of the Order of Discalced Carmelites; he and fifteen companions lived in the Carmelite friary of Toledo, each at his own work and taking no part in the political quarrels stirring the people, and the decree says they never left the path they had taken, even when the bitter persecution of the Church of Christ broke out in Spain.
The decree on the martyrdom of Eusebio del Niño Jesús and his fifteen companions was published in the Acta Apostolicae Sedis in 2006, and he was beatified by Benedict XVI among the martyrs of Spain raised to the altars in October 2007.
