Anacleto González Flores

Who they were

José Anacleto González Flores was born into extreme poverty at Tepatitlán, Jalisco, on 13 July 1888. A layman, married and a lawyer, he is honoured with eight companions as a martyr of the persecution of the Church in Mexico in 1927–1928.

His companions include the brothers Jorge and Ramón Vargas González, whose mother said at their funeral that she should be congratulated, not consoled, for having two sons who were martyrs.

As martyrs they were beatified without a miracle.

A husband, father and lawyer who gave his life for the freedom of the Church and the faith of his people.
