Ángel María Prat Hostench

Who they were

Ángel María Prat Hostench was born at Bascara in Girona on 29 April 1896, made his solemn profession in 1916 and was ordained priest in 1918; he was rector of the seminary college at Olot and then superior of the community at Tàrrega, charitable to all and careful in the duties of his state.

He was beatified on 28 October 2007 by Benedict XVI, among Ángel María Prat Hostench and his sixteen companions of the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel, killed in 1936.

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.

Why that counted as sanctity

The decree on martyrdom places him at the head of the seventeen Carmelites killed in the persecution in Spain in 1936.
